This is now rolling out globally on Facebook and Instagram, on iOS and Android operating systems.
We’re also testing an AI support assistant for instant, personalized help — whether you need to recover your account, update settings or manage your profile. This is new technology that we’re testing first on Facebook globally, and we’re exploring bringing it to our other apps in the future.
How AI Is Helping Us Protect Your Account
Our AI-powered security systems are getting better at protecting your account thanks to smarter AI and stronger security tools. In the past year, new account hacks decreased by more than 30% globally on Facebook and Instagram. Our account security systems work around the clock to spot and block potential threats — like hacking and phishing — by analyzing a wide range of signals in real time to distinguish legitimate users from attackers. These systems also block suspicious logins and flag compromised accounts before harm occurs, so you stay protected and can access your account without worry.
Over the last year, our advancements in AI have also helped us increasingly avoid disabling accounts by mistake better than ever before. And if an error does happen, our appeals process is now faster and easier, with fewer steps and AI assistance for eligible cases that helps you get a decision sooner. Our ongoing investments in our content enforcement systems mean they’re now more accurate — so you’re less likely to be affected by mistakes, and our community stays safer and more reliable for everyone.

What’s new:
- Easier-to-find recovery: You’ll now see the right recovery options at the right times, and we’re sending out improved SMS and email alerts about risky activity. If you still need help regaining access to your account, you can always visit this page to recover your account or Page.
- Trusted device recognition: Our systems recognize the device you usually use and familiar locations better than ever.
- Smarter, adaptive recovery flows: Our new account recovery experience adjusts to your particular situation with clearer guidance and simpler verification. We’ve also expanded recovery methods to include taking an optional selfie video to further verify your identity.
These improvements are already making a difference. This year, we’ve increased the relative success rate of hacked account recovery by more than 30% in the US and Canada.
Simple Steps to Stay Secure
While our AI systems work behind the scenes, we’ve launched even more safety features so you can take additional steps to protect your account:
- Security Checkup: Use the newly redesigned Security Checkup on Facebook to spot and fix potential security risks. You can also use this feature on Instagram.
- Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Set up 2FA on Facebook or Instagram, which requires a password and a simple code from your phone or an authenticator app to log in to your accounts.
- Passkeys: Sign in with your fingerprint, face, or device PIN for even stronger protection through passkeys, which we rolled out earlier this year on Facebook and Messenger.
