Project Aria Privacy Policy

Facebook Inc. provides this Privacy Notice to explain what information is collected, processed, and disclosed as part of Project Aria. This Notice specifically applies to bystanders in the area of the operation of Aria devices, to the extent their information is incidentally processed. Please note that this Privacy Notice, including any rights described below, applies only to the information that may be incidentally processed from bystanders in connection with the Project Aria program. It does not extend to Facebook employees and other individuals authorized to wear the Aria device as part of the program or to other information we may collect from you, such as information related to your use of other Facebook services.

Information collected from bystanders in connection with Project Aria will generally not be capable of identifying the bystander or be associated with any other information that reasonably could be linked, directly or indirectly, with the bystander.

1. What Information do we collect about you?

We may collect the following categories of information about you when you are recorded by the Aria device:

  • Location-related information, including precise Aria device location from a GPS receiver and/or Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios in the Aria device;
  • Audio or visual information, including photos, videos, and voice recordings;
  • Other categories of information that you choose to provide.

We may also collect internet or other electronic network activity information, including information about nearby Wi-Fi access points, beacons, and signal strength.

2. How do we use your information?

We may use the categories of information collected above to do the following:

  • Research, analyze, develop, test, and improve the Aria device and other Facebook products and services and for other internal research, analysis, development, and test purposes;
  • Provide, develop, maintain, and improve commercial products and services;
  • Promote safety, integrity, and security; and
  • Conduct and support research and innovation on topics of general social welfare, technological advancement, public interest, health, and well-being.

3. With whom do we share your information?

We may share all of the above categories of information with the following categories of recipients:

  • New owners in the event of a change of ownership or control of all or part of our products or their assets;
  • Vendors and service providers who are supporting our business, such as by providing technical infrastructure services or analyzing how our product and services are used;
  • Law enforcement or other third parties in connection with legal requests;
  • Facebook Companies; and
  • When we believe it is necessary to: (a) detect, prevent and address fraud, unauthorized use of Facebook products and services, violations of our terms or policies, or other harmful or illegal activity; (b) protect ourselves (including our rights or property), you or others, including as part of investigations or regulatory inquiries; or (c) prevent death or imminent bodily harm.

4. How can you exercise your rights?

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights:

  • Right to Know: You have the right to request that we disclose to you certain information we collect, use, or disclose, and information about our data practices;
  • Right to Request Deletion: You have the right to request that we delete certain information that we have collected from you;
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

To protect your information, we may need to verify your identity before processing your request. In some cases, we may need to collect additional information to verify your identity, such as a government issued ID. To exercise your rights, please contact projectaria@fb.com.

Under the California Consumer Protection Act, you may exercise these rights yourself or you may designate an authorized agent to make these requests on your behalf. We may request that your authorized agent have written permission from you to make requests on your behalf and may need to verify your authorized agent’s identity.

5. Updates to this Privacy Notice

Facebook may make changes to this Privacy Notice from time to time, which will be available at www.fb.com/projectaria. We will display the “Last Updated” date on those updates so you can check the Privacy Notice for any recent changes.
