Facebook Messenger to Begin Bill Payments Test With Partners In the Philippines

By Ginger Baker, Product Manager

Today, Facebook began testing a feature in Manila that helps people set up bill payments using a bot for Messenger. People will have the option to pay balances online or by dropping off a physical payment at any Smart Padala location. Today’s test includes PayMaya, and we will test with additional partners in this market in the coming weeks, including GCash. These tests are aimed at helping people pay bills at more convenient locations and giving them greater clarity around payment deadlines, fees and digital confirmations using Messenger. We are also in discussion with banks to offer similar services.

These tests are designed to create a unified, easy-to-use experience that will help financial service providers connect with people. We hope this will give people a new, easier way to access the financial services they need on a platform they use regularly.
